Maternity Collection

2023

This collection was made to honor the changing body, specifically the pregnant body. The body goes through immense changes while creating new life, these garments were made to change with the body. Many of these pieces have an element of accommodation or personalization, whether that be straps that the wearer ties, elastic, or stretch, the clothes are made to fit you, not you fit the clothes. Most maternity wear is made to cover the body, these garments were made for those who want to show it off. These pieces are meant to be worn before, during, and after pregnancy.

From plants to textiles to garments, it was important to have the journey of the material play a role in the final collection. Many of the pieces are dyed naturally with respect to sustainability as well as avoiding harsh chemicals that could irritate the wearer or the baby. The process of creating these pieces required a level of intimacy both with working with materials as well as within the conversations I had with the women I spoke to.  These moments are the driving piece of influence behind the design of each piece.

In my conversations with women who had been or are currently pregnant, they said they had to compromise their personal style for their maternity wear. The clothes that they did buy, they hardly wore again after being pregnant. There were hardly any pieces that remained in their closets years later. The clothes were unflattering, like a sack that sat over the body. This collection works to create a space for women to keep their personal style, value sustainably and ethically made clothing, and embrace the changing body. These pieces were designed with empathy and love for the women wearing them.
